Hello! I’m Nickelle!

I am in my mid 20’s and I live in the Pacific Northwest where I enjoy my time hiking, paddle boarding, taking in God’s beautiful creation, dancing, singing, and spending time with my friends (most of what I do is oriented around quality time with my people). When I am home I enjoy reading, cleaning or organizing, pretending I am in a Broadway musical, or going to my friend’s house next door to see my niece and watch old movies (can you tell I am an extravert?).

I have many interests, and being ADHD you can imagine how many times the focus has shifted over the years. However, the one thing that has never changed through various life circumstances, hyper-fixations, and personality developments, is my love for traveling. Whether it is a new hiking trail or new country, I love taking in the countless variety of cultures, terrains, and mesmerizing mountain views.

I had recently realized that I had stopped prioritizing, and therefore lacked, a creative outlet in my life. I went from work, to social events, to serving opportunities, leaving no room to create or pour into a side of me that I believe was intentionally intertwined into my character. Not to mention, anything outdoorsy that I love to do is limited to select months due to the weather in the PNW (iykyk). I knew it was a good idea to do something but I had no idea what that something should be.

That is around when I had found my old high school writing portfolio. The portfolio, along with many other old textbooks and journals, had been collecting dust in the bottom of an old box that had been my faithful shadow, traveling with me from house-to-house, since graduation. It contained many of my favorite assignments that I had completed as well as notes from various teachers encouraging me to continue to write after high school. Who knows if I still have the same potential for writing as they claimed I did back in high school, but I do know that I enjoyed it and even more, I have always loved the challenge of telling a story that keeps readers and listeners engaged, in a way that draws them in, as if they were right there in the middle of whatever experience I found entertaining, or important, enough to write about.

Finding that portfolio started the ball of writing that would eventually roll into a desire to start a blog. What better to write about than the one constant in my life, aside from Jesus, that has kept me going: traveling.

To make things more interesting, when I travel I tend to attract weird situations or people into my vicinity, like a magnet for questionable personalities or danger (Thankfully, nothing has ever actually happened to me or those I am with, praise Jesus). These different circumstances have made for some pretty intriguing stories as well as practical life lessons for when traveling abroad. This blog is where I have chosen to write about them. So come along with me as I take you to various trails, new states, and far away countries while I navigate the countless abnormalities life likes to throw at me.

Let’s go on an adventure!
